Oxford Irish Conference

This major conference will attract academics, Irish government officials and clergy to the university city of Oxford.

Gaeilge na Breataine will examine the reasons for the dramatic growth of the Irish language amongst young people in Britain. There will be music, scenic walks, exhibitions and "taster classes" in Irish for absolute beginners.

Altan at The Gallery, Hendon

DONEGAL traditional  group Altan kick off their UK tour at The Gallery in Hendon on Sunday, September 12.

Following on from the success of the recent Mary Black evening, Altan are the latest act to bring top quality Irish music to the venue.

Indeed, Altan have established themselves as one of the leading Irish folk and traditional music groups in the world. Forming in County Donegal in 1987, it was not until the 1990s that they properly emerged, going on to sell millions of records worldwide.

Elvis Forever Concert

BBC Radio 2 is proud to announce that Sir Tom Jones will be leading the dazzling roster of musicians at Elvis Forever, a concert celebrating the music of Elvis Presley, with Radio 2 Breakfast host Chris Evans and Priscilla Presley, in London's Hyde Park on Sunday 12 September 2010.

 

 

The line-up of this unique tribute to the king of rock 'n' roll in the year that he would have turned 75 includes KT Tunstall, Scouting For Girls, Imelda May, Fyfe Dangerfield, Jon Allen, Michael Ball, Mica Paris, Tony Christie, The Magnets, Fran Healy (from Travis), Craig David, Tony Hadley and Marti Pellow.

 

 

These musicians will be accompanied by the TCB Band (Takin' Care of Business), the group who provided the rhythm section to Elvis's band from 1969 until 1977. 

 

Radio 2's Elvis Forever concert follows the smash success of last year's event, Thank You For The Music ... A Celebration Of The Music Of Abba.
