No longer just content with packing skincare with easy to find ingredients, brands are now sourcing more weird and wonderful ingredients that will work wonders on our faces. From Japanese long life herb to Eggshell Membrane, we track down the newest innovations going into our face creams.

Japanese long life herb

bareMinerals may be known the world over for its breathable mineral make-up, but the company is also quickly becoming the king of skincare too. The brand’s new SkinLongevity serum is created with Long Life Herb Extract, a powerful plant that has been shown to stop the signs of ageing.

It’s grown on Okinawa Island, a place dubbed “the island of long life”, with the rich soil contributing to its anti-ageing properties. Blended with California poppy and Lempuyang ginger, this serum may be full of ingredients you’ve never heard of, but your skin will certainly know what to do with them.

Eggshell Membrane

Skincare brand Perricone MD is the brainchild of dermatologist and nutritionist Nicholas Perricone, who knows what he’s doing when it comes to keeping our skin glowing. While the products often use conventional skin-loving ingredients like green tea and vitamin C, the OVM cream also uses Eggshell Membrane, a powerful anti-ageing compound that is made up of nutrients, proteins and peptides that help to rejuvenate and restore skin’s beauty and health. It’s also packed with vitamins C and E and Retinol.

Algae

Thought algae are just the gross stuff that floats on ponds? Think again, as algae can actually be great for your face. sjal skincare has used algae extract for its Orbe Eye Cream, a potent product to help lift the eye area and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fatty deposits, dark circles and puffiness. It also uses a blend of precious metals including zinc, copper and magnesium, plus the very Harry Potter sounding mugwort, an aromatic plant believed to have healing properties.
