Wedding Proposal among surprises at Dublin Airport this Christmas

Amidst the Christmas returns this year a young couple from Monaghan became engaged on their 3 year anniversary.

Martin Mulroe had enlisted the help of Dublin Airport staff to surprise his girlfriend Louise Mooney with flowers and balloons.

A choir from a local school and a crowd of cameras surrounded the happy couple as they met in the arrivals hall of Terminal 2.

Speaking to before the big moment, Martin said he was “very nervous”. “I’m going to meet and greet her, and pop the question… I’m just going to come out and do it, there and then”.

The couple let in the airport exactly three years before and had been living in Australia together for the last two years.

Louise had returned almost four months ago to begin a college course, and had just sat her final exam before heading to the airport.

There were many other surprises and emotional greetings for Irish emigrants young and old returning home for Christmas, or home for good.
