Model Veronica Webb loves the “transformative power” of make-up.

Veronica began her fashion career back in the ’90s and soon became the face of beauty giant Revlon, as well as walking for big brands such as Karl Lagerfeld and Azzedine Alaia. Her passion for cosmetics hasn’t faded though as she’s currently the beauty editor of As If magazine, a role in which she thrives.

“I have always liked make-up; it went hand in hand with my love of clothes,” she told “Make-up was not something that I used a lot of, but I loved its transformative power. One thing that I learned early on was to find one good feature and play it up. It’s the easiest thing to do and it’s the easiest way not to make a mistake. I became famous in the ’90s for those big brows and just really perfect skin, really little foundation, and no colour, no lipstick, no eyeshadow, nothing. That was my look for a long time.”

It was her grandmother who triggered her love for all things beauty, with Veronica recalling how her elder was always “very manicured” and perfect-looking. By contrast, her mother’s approach to her appearance was a lot more stripped back and natural.

Veronica, 51, hasn’t neglected her talent on the catwalk though as she made a return to Fashion Week for the fall shows earlier this year (16), where she walked for the likes of Sophie Theallet.

“Well, fashion is my first love and has been since I was a kid, because my mother made all my clothes when I was a child,” she smiled when asked what caused her return. “To me, making clothes is so much fun and so intimate. It makes me happy, like baking cookies.

“My kids are bigger now, my youngest is now 11 and a half, so I’ve got some time as well. They still need me just as much, but in a different way.”
