Our beauty and style guru, Kayleigh O’Donovan returns with her ultimate festival beauty survival guide
Hey! Wow what a busy month. I’ve just landed back from New York City. What I love about America is the variety in the makeup, its girly girl heaven in there. I picked up some great additions for my kit, it also lets me know what’s already on the market so I can ensure when my products are released they are one of a kind. My favourite 2 buys were the Benefit Cheekathon, which is a palette of the 5 of benefits most popular cheek and bronzer colours. Also Kat Von D Lock It Tattoo Foundation has amazing coverage and you hardly need to use any product. If you haven’t already you should definitely check Sephora out. Now I’m back I am extremely busy with wedding season, I’ve got 2 weddings this week alone! Hope you enjoy this month’s piece! Kayleigh x
The ultimate festival beauty survival guide
Whether you’re heading to Reading or Leeds, pack perfectly with our ultimate festival survival guides of beauty dos and don’ts
Whether it’s a festival first or you’re a camping veteran, everyone knows three days of camping, drinking and exposure to the outdoors are not conducive to anyone’s beauty routine. Fear not, with the right packing and prep following our how to guide you can keep yourself glam and fabulous.
NUMBER 1: DO WEAR SPF
Get an SPF in to your routine, these days many foundations, bb creams and facial moisturisers contain and adequate spf. I use MAC studio fix, which contains spf Sun damage is the number one cause of premature ageing and shows on our skin in the form of wrinkles or hyperpigmentation. Dullness, discolouration and uneven skin tone can also be a result of skin that has been damaged by the sun’s harmful rays. By incorporating adequate sun protection into your daily routine you can combat the onset of early ageing. It is important to apply a moisturiser with SPF all year round and not just when the sun is shining.
NUMBER 2: PREPARE TO NOT SHOWER
Probably the most difficult part of camping for me is the no showering part, now don’t get me wrong there are showers at festivals.
However usually on inspection you’ll enter them cleaner than you’ll leave. So I always pack copious amounts of baby wipes, hand santizer & face wipes.
Purell Hand sanitizer is great as you can get mini handbag size ones. Then I use the Pitrock Crystal Deodorant £3.40 (Hawethorn Health) which is a 24 hour lasting deodorant with no chemicals and is sensitive.
Body mists are great alternative to pore clogging heavy perfumes so to stay fresh and festival ready I use ‘Fresh & Clean’ Body mist from Victoria Secret £16.66.
Number 3: DO WEAR WATERPROOF MAKEUP
Stay classy with a waterproof mascara, no one wants to have finally made eye contact with favourite front man later to realise you look like the crying snapchat filter with what were actually tears of joy. Water proofing your make up will also up the odds of you staying festival chic whether it be rain or protecting against humidity. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara in Waterproof has to be the best mascara on the market at present.
Number 5: PRE PREP
I think two of the best pre preps for any event but especially a festival has to be a Spray Tan and Lash & Brow tinting. If like me you don’t like to expose your skin to the sun, cheat your way to the perfect tan. However, my brows are my go to item if I’m leaving the house with minimal make up my lashes and brows will always have to be done. So if I’m going away and want to concentrate on having a good time over a prolonged make up routine I’ll always head to my favourite salon and treat myself.
Number 6: BRAIDING
What better way to keep your hair tied up and tangle free than in an understated, a mess free braid. If like me you are all fingers and thumbs when it comes to doing your own hair get some hair help from the master stylists at the Hershesons Braid Bars, When you’ve reached day two or three enlist some help from dry shampoo and beach wave products or check out the festival site for any hair bars!
NUMBER 7: DO WEAR GLITTER & METALLIC TATOOS
Don’t take your look to seriously, festivals are supposed to be fun so make sure you pack the fun glitter and metallic tattoos. Metallic tattoos were practically made for the festival season and take minimal resource and time to apply but create a massive impact. Channel the inner 12 year old in you and dig out those old beauty staples of glitter, bright, bold colours and stick on jewellery – have fun with it!
Number 8: STAY HYDRATED
Arguably the most important not only beauty tip but health tip also. We all want to have fun trying the different bar & cocktail stands, staying in the field as long as possible and forget about our usual routines.
However staying hydrated is not only going to keep your skin looking great, but also keep the body working properly. Alcohol is a natural diuretic therefore you need to replace the fluids quickly to avoid headaches, sickness or even passing out.
I always pack a few sachets of Dioralyte, which help rehydrate the body and also shake any signs of a hangover. Available in any pharmacy
Number 9: Pack Multi Use Products
Rather than bringing your whole toiletry and make up kit, pack multiuse products. My Top 3 would be: Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream- Lip Balm, Sunburn & Cuts and Natural skin highlighter Charlotte Tilbury Beach Stick – Lip to cheek pigment gives a dewy colour pop to your look, my favourite shade is Las Salinas Argan oil – Great moisturiser and Hair Serum
Remember to have fun, pack light and stay safe!!
