Tried and tested: conditioners

Tried tested conditioners

Conditioning is as vital to hair care as shampoo and hot water, so it’s time to really pick your product correctly. Maybe you’re stuck in a conditioner rut, looking for a way out of using the same one you have been for the past five years? Or maybe you’re just unhappy with how your hair is looking. Well worry no more and read our conditioner lowdown for the best conditioners out there.

Mane ‘n Tail Conditioner – 5/5

Originally developed for horses, hence the name, Mane ‘n Tail soon became a phenomenon when pony owners started using it on themselves. The product is still a crossover suitable for human and animals, and after using for the last few weeks it’s easy to see why it’s become such a cult buy.

Loved by the likes Jennifer Aniston and Sarah Jessica Parker, this conditioner makes hair strong, shiny and full of volume. It also comes in a shampoo, but I used the conditioner with my usual shampoo and still fully felt the results. It’s a bright blue colour, not the norm for most hair care products, and doesn’t really smell of much – but don’t let that put you off. The bottle is also really big and you don’t need a lot to spread into your ends, so it lasts for ages. A cult beauty buy you need to try for yourselves.

Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Bombshell Blonde Conditioner – 5/5

This Phil Smith conditioner is my latest must-have hair product. I found this conditioner made my hair soft and shiny and left my blonde highlights nice and bright. Works best when left on the hair for two minutes, before being rinsed thoroughly. The best part, however, is the smell – I just loved the soft fragrance, thanks to the chamomile extract, which gave my hair a nice long-lasting scent. As good as any salon products!

L’Oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Re-Balancing Conditioner – 3/5

With L’Oreal promoting the inclusion of clay in its formula, I expected the product to be a grey colour but it is in fact white-ish just like a normal conditioner. For best results, the conditioner needs to be left on for a few minutes, though it was easy to rinse out and left my hair feeling soft and shiny. However, it is a little on the thin side, so I had to use quite a lot on the ends of my hair. The fruity-floral scent is a nice bonus.

Lee Stafford CoCo LoCo CoNDiTiONER – 4/5

This Lee Stafford conditioner is literally summer in a bottle thanks to the sweet coconut scent, and its rich consistency feels like a real treat on your hair. Because it’s so thick you need to be sparing, as if you add too much it may not wash out properly. Hair is left soft, silky and, best of all, smelling like coconuts. What more could you want?
