A teenage girl has died in Wexford after she collapsed during a training session with her local GAA side.

Kilanerin GAA club near Gorey in Wexford tweeted that it is ‘numb’ at the sudden and untimely passing of 14-year old Ciara Ryan.

Ciara died after suffering a suspected brain haemorrhage on Thursday night.

She had just finished training with Kilanerin GAA Club in Gorey and was playing with friends on the pitch when she said she felt unwell and collapsed.

A local doctor and paramedic attended and administered first aid and she was taken to Wexford General Hospital but she was pronounced dead a short time later.

RTE said the suspected cause of death was a brain haemhorrage.

Local Councillor Joe Sullivan said there was “devastation among the people who knew her and her school friends.

“It’s hard to describe how shocking the tragic death of a young person when things like this happen.

“It’s not the natural way of things.”
