Trad fans to get online taste of Fleadh Cheoil with web open day

Any Irish traditional music fans, or those looking to learn more about Ireland’s biggest trad festival and enjoy music performances will be able to virtually explore a one-stop shop this Friday with an online open day.

Fleadh Cheoil, the annual festival which was launched in 1951 and presents All-Ireland winners each year, is to be held in Sligo this August and a live Q&A will enable those curious to pose their questions about the event, such as travel arrangements, competitions and volunteer registration.

“This is a new innovation for the Fleadh Cheoil,” says Fleadh public relations spokesperson Micheál Ó Domhnaill. “It is important for us to engage with the public in many different ways. It’s one thing to be in Sligo for the Open Day and to be able to meet someone to answer questions from 9-11am.

“But there will be thousands of visitors in Sligo for the Fleadh in August, and we want them to be able to prepare as fully as possible, and providing an online platform for them to pose questions relevant to their needs and requirements is really important to us.”

There will also be a Musician’s Corner which will stream live on Twitter, enabling musicians to play in front of a live internet audience from 12-1pm.

Follow the Fleadh twitter feed on @fleadhcheoil, using #sligofleadh2015. A prize goes to the musician who draws the biggest online audience.

The Fleadh will also have the support of Fáilte Ireland and Sligo Tourism to ensure that visitors to the Fleadh Cheoil will also be able to take in the Wild Atlantic Way, and the many experiences Sligo has to offer from mountain walks to surfing to golf, and much more besides.

In addition, there will be lots of competitions and giveaways, plus the launch of specially commissioned Sligo video postcards, which show the county at its stunning best, as well as the launch of the new Fleadh Cheoil 2015 poster.

So if you have a minute or an hour to spend this Friday June 19, head over to The Glasshouse Hotel or join online
