Longford 2-11, London 0-03
By Larry Cooney.
London made a very disappointing start to their Leinster IFC championship campaign in Longford last Saturday afternoon.
Despite having the benefit of a strong breeze in opening half they were soon in trouble after a bright opening when they led by 0-2 to 0-1 at Emmet Og Park, Killoe. And when the Exiles trailed by 1-6 to 0-2 at the interval, the match was all but over as a contest.
However, despite this 14-point defeat – the extent of which was largely due to a lack of match practice in their preparation – London will certainly benefit from their clash with Longford and can be much more competitive against Wicklow when they travel to the Garden County next weekend.
On a blustery showery day in between sunny intervals, the visitors began brightly playing into the pavilion end and after a foul on Caroline Benson in the second minute Hannah Noonan opened the scoring for the resultant free on the 30-metre line.
