Third time lucky for Top Gear: Featuring: Chris Evans, Matt LeBlanc

Top Gear finally appeared to have won over viewers with Sunday night’s episode (12Jun16).

Chris Evans and former Friends actor Matt LeBlanc took over hosting of the motoring programme earlier this year (16), after Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond departed the series.

After the revamped show premiered in May (16), it received mixed reviews from fans, with many criticising Chris’ “shouty” presenting style.

Sunday night was the third episode, and it appears bosses have taken note of comments from viewers, with the latest instalment winning over the fan base.

Many took to Twitter to comment on the show, with one writing: “Best episode yet. It’s getting better and better. This brings me much joy. Loads of content, too. #TopGear.”

Another added: “Honestly excluding Chris Evans #TopGear really was third time lucky.”

However, others suggested that it was the reduction of Chris’ screen time that led to a more positive result.

“#TopGear… with less Chris Evans, well done you listened,” someone else tweeted.

Chris previously said he wasn’t going to let criticism of the show get him down. He also insisted that the negative comments the programme has been subjected to don’t represent the show’s much wider, and more loyal, fan base.

“I find it hilarious that people who have never made a show in their lives then presume what is right and what is wrong with the making of a television programme,” he told BuzzFeed.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinions, course they are… Those people have a loudhailer and that’s fine, and by the way, bring it on. That’s what I expected.”

Chris added: “I’ve got enough feedback back to know that enough people like it and love it, actually.”

Matt, meanwhile, has won over viewers with his presenting style, and it was recently reported that he has been offered a hefty salary to return for a second series of the BBC programme.
