The mind games have begun in earnest

By Tomas Mulcahy.

Long after the final whistle had been blown in the drawn match , it was clear that the replay could only go ahead on September 28 due to previous commitments to Camogie and Ladies football on particular Sundays, and, of course, the Men’s football finals are in the mix as well.

A few issues have arisen because of this. Three weeks is too long for any team to wait for a replay and the wishes of players and management are never taken into consideration here. Secondly, it is a Saturday afternoon which will hinder a lot of people travelling due to work commitments etc and the timing of 5pm means that the floodlights will more than likely be in use from the throw in.

Not that either side has control over these matters and all efforts will be on the tactical battle and keeping players tuned in for another great encounter.

Clare would have had the U21 All Ireland final to occupy their minds for a week or so and the result will give them all the added confidence now to go and finish the job against Cork.
