There were many GAA fans in London supporting Clare in Saturday’s All-Ireland hurling final replay but few would have known there were two Banner fans in the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal stars Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla were behind Davy Fitzgerald’s team despite being from Germany and Spain respectively.
German international striker Podolski took to Twitter on Saturday to say: “Good luck @GaaClare @ClareHurlers for All-Ireland final. Today Santi & me smashed it over the bar #wristyhurlers”.
Other unlikely GAA fans include Daniel Radcliffe who was once filming in Ireland when he got a celebrate an All-Ireland victory with Dublin’s minor footballers, Real Madrid’s Xabi Alonso who played some under-age football during a stay in Kells, Meath as a teenager and controversial comedian Frankie Boyle who last year often tweeted support for Donegal’s footballers.
