Tamzin Outhwaite would “definitely think about” returning to EastEnders if she was asked

The 45-year-old actress played Mel Owen on the BBC soap from 1998 to 2002. Recent reports suggested Tamzin had turned down the chance to reprise her role on the series, but the star insists the prospect has never been presented to her.

“It’s a weird myth that I’m turning them down,” she told The Sun newspaper. “I’d definitely think about it but I’ve never been asked.”

However, Tamzin acknowledges that a comeback could be difficult to script as her character doesn’t have any relatives left in Walford.

“I’m not sure if my character has reason to go back, though, as she’s got no family there,” she added. “But I had a lovely time doing EastEnders.

“It’s just not something I’ve had to think about since.”

Tamzin certainly wouldn’t be the only EastEnders star to make a return to the soap if she did decide to go back. Ross Kemp reprised his role as Grant Mitchell while Danniella Westbrook returned playing his sister Sam as they filmed the death of their on-screen mother Peggy Mitchell (played by Barbara Windsor).

It has also been claimed that actor Neil McDermott is set to return to the soap this September (16). The 35-year-old starred as Ryan Malloy in the show, and his character is currently behind bars. However, The Sun reports that Neil has already started shooting “top secret scenes” for his alter-ego’s return, which will involve an emotional reunion with his sister Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty).

“Ryan is never far from Whitney’s mind and she has always stayed in touch as much as possible,” a source told the publication.

“Although Ryan will only be appearing in a couple of episodes it’s fair to say that when he’s around drama usually follows.”
