South London’s Under 14 footballers were a festive tv hit when their extraordinary journey to success at Feile Peil na nOg in Derry was retold in a RTE documentary.
The programme, Feile Dreams, aired on December 30 on RTE 1 and followed the ups and downs of the team over five months as they prepared to compete against Ireland’s best at the biggest youth festival of Gaelic football.
South London would go on to beat teams from Derry, Fermanagh and Westmeath before defeating Enistymon of Clare in the final to be crowned Division 4 champions.
An astonishing achievement given the team was mostly made up boys who come from African families with no previous experience of the sport until they fall under the wing of headteacher Pat Winston at St Paul’s Academy, Dulwich.
