St Gabriel’s by any other name
By Damian Dolan.
On the face of it, Perth may not have too much in common with London, aside from a shared language, but Bernard Gaffney needed little time to make the adjustment.
After two years in Perth playing for St Gabriel’s, Gaffney landed in London in June, taking advantage of the link between the two Gabriel’s clubs.
The robust full forward has since made a big impact – no mean feat given the talent in this St Gabriel’s side. Standing out is no easy task, but Gaffney has managed it with some powerfully performances, and some net-busting goals.
His strike against Kilburn Gaels in the Collins Cup final just one of several similar stunners from the former Clare Minor, Under 21 and senior hurler, who lined out for Clare in an All Ireland SHC quarter-final in 2007.
