Spaceman Hadfield is reunited with Chieftains

By Shelley Marsden

Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield met up with The Chieftains on terra firma today to perform Moondance for Newstalk listeners in Dublin.

It was their first earth-bound duet after performing it on earth/in space last March.

Speaking at the Science Gallery, Trinity College Dublin, Cmdr Hadfield told Newstalk Breakfast’s Chris Donoghue he was honoured:

“One of the greatest feelings I have in life is making music with friends. There is a shared creation of it that I get through no other activity – it’s beyond language”.

The Chieftains and Cmdr Hadfield first performed the number while the astronaut was stationed on the ISS Spacecraft, during which he tweeted pictures of Ireland from space.

Band member Paddy Maloney gave Cmdr Hadfield a signed bodhrán to take away with him.
