As the BRIT award nominations revealed over here, the Meteor Choice Music Prize shortlist for Irish Album of the Year 2013 has been announced, with the winner to be revealed at Dublin’s Vicar St on February 27.
The shortlist includes albums from Irish World favourites Bell X1, Kodaline and Villagers, as well as My Bloody Valentine, O Emperor and Girls Names.
The live event will be broadcast live on Today FM in a special four hour extended programme during the Paul McLoone show, and for the first time, a one-hour highlights programme will be broadcast on RTE 2 will be broadcast on Sunday March 2 at 10.30pm.
Lisa Comerford, Meteor’s Marketing Director, said: “The shortlist is a real spotlight on the kind of talent that we as a country produce. There is always a massive pool of talent for the judges to choose from, and I know fans really get behind their favourite. The announcement at this year’s Meteor Choice Music Prize in February is sure to be hotly contested!”

The lucky winner(s) go home with €10,000, a prize fund which has been provided by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA).
Previous recipients include Divine Comedy, Two Door Cinema Club and last year’s winners, also Irish World award winners, Delorentos (pictured).
