Shayne Ward was delighted to have his first day on the most famous cobbled road in TV, as he introduced his character to Coronation Street.
The 30-year-old, who won the X Factor in 2005, was recently confirmed as Wetherfield’s newest cast member, and the programme’s press team took to Instagram to display his delight at finally getting to film on set.
They posted three pictures of Shayne posing around the ‘Street, saying: We think someone might be excited about their first day in work! Welcome to #Corrie @shaynetward #FirstDay #BehindTheScenes’.
Shayne’s character is Aidan Connor, the cousin of Michelle, who is played by Kym Marsh.
Speaking recently Shayne said that he had a good bit in common with his character: “If you’re being charming and cheeky, like Aidan, then people will like you. He has great family values. We’re similar in that he’s grown up on an estate and is half-Irish.”
Another former popstar is due to hit the cobbles later this year too, as it was recently announced that Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud fame would also be joining the soap.
