Santa’s set to dash around Pinner for St Luke’s

Angela and the team of Santa Dashers in 2014 - Santa’s set to dash around Pinner for St Luke’s
Locals of all ages are set to dress as Santas and do a 3 mile dash around Pinner in aid of St Luke’s on Sunday 13th December.

Hundreds of Santa’s of all ages will be creating a vision of red as they take a 3 mile dash around Pinner in aid of St Luke’s on Sunday 13th December.

The Santa’s will be entertained by the White City TA – 20 Company Corps of Drummers and Scoil Rince Ryan Lavelle Irish dancers before the dash and will receive a medal and well deserved mince pie on completion. Participants of all ages are welcome and you can even bring along the family dog!

Angela Egan has been taking part in the Santa Dash for many years now and has raised thousands of pounds for St Luke’s – last year Angela and her group ‘Away with the Fairies’ raised £3500.

Angela said ‘My husband was really young when he was diagnosed with cancer and died aged 33 years old. I started taking part in events so I could say thank you to the Hospice for all their hard work. Then a few years ago a friend of mine died and it was round the time of the Santa Dash, so I decided to get involved.

After the Santa Dash, we would go to our pub in our Santa suits and this one time a lad gave me £20, by the end of the night we raised an extra £200-300. From then onwards, a group of us, around 16-20 people, would go on a pub crawl with our buckets just to try and raise extra money.

A lot of people in this area have heard of St Luke’s and all the care they provide for families and patients, so they are very generous with their donations.

People should take part in the Santa Dash because most people nowadays will know somebody who has been affected by cancer and know how hard the staffs at hospices work in order to make sure those patients are cared for in their final few days. Not only that, but they also look after the families extremely well.

My friend’s daughter was young when her father was diagnosed with cancer and the staff at St Luke’s created a memory box for her.

When I came to visit my husband they regularly brought us tea and biscuits, the staff were so good to us; they looked after us as well as the patients.”

The dash starts at 10am from Nower Hill High School, George V Avenue, Pinner, HA5 5RP and you will be provided with a Santa suit.
Early bird registration is £5 for under 16s and £10 for adults (£7 and £12 after 13th November).
