Ireland still in it
By Damian Dolan
Ireland’s Grand Slam hopes may have slipped through their fingers, quite literally, against England at the Aviva Stadium, but former international Shane Horgan believes that the championship is not yet beyond Declan Kidney’s side.
Ireland, of course, must first take care of business against Scotland and France – to sizeable challenges in themselves – before they kick off super Saturday on March 16 against Italy in Rome. With England in Cardiff, Ireland could still be embroiled in a championship finale similar to 2007 when their win in Rome just wasn’t quite enough, with France clinching the title a few hours later against Scotland.
For Horgan, Ireland’s skill levels may have let them down in Dublin but they’ve shown enough on the opening two weekends to suggest that they can still have a say in the destination of this year’s title.
