Irish Londoners were out in force on Thursday to support the London Football team ahead of their  Connacht Semi-Final replay against Leitrim.

A fundraising concert, called Rock 4 Londain and led by local favourites the BibleCode Sundays was held at the Emerald Grounds in Ruislip to raise funds to cover the team’s travelling expenses.

Hundreds of revellers watched bands like Hungry Grass, The Monday Club, The Lagan, Slim Attraction and London hurling captain John Walsh put on a feast of Irish trad music and celtic rock.

The concert was put together at the shortest possible notice by BibleCode Sundays front-man Ronan McManus, London Supporters Club chairman Kevin Kelly and staff at the Irish World.

London Rose Grace Kenny was there to lend her support to the boys in green and white ahead of Sunday’s historic counter.

Several member of the squad turned up too to thank local supporters for their efforts over the last few weeks.

Captain Seamus Hannon said: “I want to say massive thanks on behalf of the team. We know this was organised at short notice. A huge thanks to Ronan there as he put in a huge effort in to this. It is great to see everybody coming together. It is nice that we have this support and hopefully we can get a victory on Sunday. With the help of God we will be in final on July 22. That is the aim.

“If anyone here was at home for the match last weekend, I know it was a big effort to get the flight, and I want to thank everyone who made the effort to go over the Carrick-on-Shannon, it was great to have the support, especially in their home patch you could really hear the London support, and hopefully that will spurn us on and keep us going. We appreciate all this support and what goes on behind the scenes, so thanks very much and hope we can do you proud on Sunday.”

Coach Paul Coggins echoed Hannon’s sentiments. He added: “I want to say thanks to everyone who organised this event tonight.  And all of you who have taken the time out to come out there tonight and show your support for the team and the lads. The lads gave a tremendous performance last Sunday as ye all know. They have worked hard, and they are still working hard, we have to take a few flights to get over there next weekend, it is tough enough going back there again but don’t worry, once the boys get over the line we will be together, we will be tight and we will be strong because Leitrim are a good team too and we will be giving them everything. We will be doing you proud don’t worry about that. Thanks to our Rose, Grace Kenny, for joining us and we wish her the best of luck during the summer too and hope we see you all many more times in the future and keep supporting us.”
