Police are appealing for help to identify a man responsible for shooting into a crowd at a birthday party and injuring an 18-year-old in Kenton in October.
On Saturday, October 25, an 18th birthday party was held at the Preston Mall Youth & Community Centre, The Mall, Preston Hill, Kenton.
The party was advertised on social media channels which resulted in a large number of uninvited people attending.
Shortly before midnight a firework was let off inside the community centre hall resulting in people running out of the venue in panic.
Fireworks were then let off outside the premises which again caused people to run in panic. At this point a male fired a handgun in the direction of the fleeing crowd hitting an 18-year-old male.
The victim was conveyed to a local hospital where a bullet fragment was removed. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Detective Inspector Glenn Butler, Trident Gang Crime Command, North Reactive Team, said: “I urgently need people to contact me so I can take this man off our streets before we have another fatality in our community.
“This was an act of wanton recklessness; anyone fleeing from the venue could have been shot and killed. If anyone has information I urge them to contact police as soon as possible.”
