Plenty more to look forward to after Cheltenham fever

Jockey Bryan Cooper celebrating victory on Our Conor in the Triumph Hurdle

By John Doyle

As ever with such a feast of glorious racing, it is hard to think as the Cheltenham frenzy for 2013 is over, now is a time to look forward to horizon that will fill the gap for the intervening twelve months as the pressure builds again to the 2014 Festival.

Where better to start than to look at the planning stage for the 2014 Festival. Some of the performances this week have been amazing and create great excitement and expectation for next year.

On the hurdling scene, 2014 is already building into a monster as impressive Triumph winner, Our Conor, won like a superstar in the making and is already joint favourite for the Champion next year. Another Novice though, The New One, showed the most striking turn of foot of all and looks like a major star in the making too.

Quevega will reportedly return to look for a sixth Mares hurdle. In the stayers division, Big Bucks will not run before Cheltenham 2014 while At Fishers Cross looks a splendid new kid on the block.

On the chasing scene, Champagne Fever has top Chaser written all over him and will surely be heading towards the Arkle as a hot fancy in 2014. Sprinter Sacre is the king of the show and will be around for a few years yet and is a joy to behold.
