Cadbury-owner Mondelez has announced that they are bidding one of Ireland’s iconic tea-time snacks farewell, as they also announced job cuts in the country.
The Pink Snack bar is to be discontinued, the announcement coming as their plans to cut over 200 Irish jobs was made public.
Modelez’s gum-base production plant in Tallaght will be closed, with the loss of 45 permanent roles and a further 160 jobs will be lost at Coolock, Co Dublin and Rathmore, Co Kerry.
The news was met with great disappointment on Twitter, most notably to Tipperary comedian Pat Shortt, who often references the biscuit in his material.
The Killinaskully and D’Unbelievables star wrote: “Devastated over the pink snack being discontinued. Like a loss in the family.”
His post was retweeted over 60 times, as many shared their own disappointment at the news.
He later responded, joking: “First the smoking ban now the pink snack next we won’t get a drink in the pub. We’ll have to go back to dinner in the middle of the day.”
