Paul McCartney has reportedly been offered a judging role on British TV talent show The Voice.

The series is moving from BBC to ITV later this year (16), and bosses are said to be hoping to land a superstar for the panel.

According to Britain’s The Sun newspaper, former Beatles star Paul has been approached to sit in one of the famous spinning chairs, with executives “pulling out all the stops” in a bid to convince him to sign up for the show.

“ITV are determined to make the show a real success when it changes channel so they are really going for it,” a source told the publication.

“Paul McCartney is undoubtedly one of the greatest musicians to have ever lived so to get him signed up would be a real coup. It would blow the judges from the BBC series out of the water and would set The Voice apart as the top music contest in the world – well above The X Factor or equivalents in the US.”

The last series of The Voice, which aired on the BBC, saw Boy George, Paloma Faith, will.i.am and Ricky Wilson on the judging panel, while Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Rita Ora and Jessie J have also formerly worked as judges on the show.

However, while bosses are apparently keen to land Paul for the next instalment, the 73-year-old singer is said to be unlikely to take them up on the offer.

“While the ITV offer has been generous, Paul really doesn’t need the money and wants to focus on his own music,” the source added.

“His One on One world tour does not end until October, when filming for the show is likely to begin. It’s all still up in the air but The Voice really is trying to pull out all the stops this time.”

When contacted by the paper, an ITV spokesperson refused to comment on line-up rumours and said the official panel will be announced in due course.
