Saturday sees the All Ireland Senior Club Championship, taking place at Ruislip at 2.00 pm, when Parnell’s take on first time Cork and Munster Champions Mourneabbey.
They dethroned last year’s Cork champions St Val’s, then went onto beat the Banner from Clare in the Munster final.
The Mourneabbey club have the four O’Sullivan, sisters Doireann, Ciara, Roisin and Meabh with both Ciara and Doireann, playing with the very successful Cork All Ireland winning team.
Overall they are also a very young team.
Parnell’s have not played many games within the county, they did reach the All Ireland seven’s final last month, where they lost out to Clonbeirne of Galway, two weeks ago they travelled to Ireland for two challenge games, winning against Corofin and loosing to Claregalway, but it was good match practice against tough opposition.
They have some fine players in Sinead McGooey (Monaghan) Sinead O Mahoney (Dublin), Hannah Noonan (London), and Arsenal and Republic of Ireland soccer player Niamh Fahey (Galway).
They will certainly be a match for the Cork girls. The fact that Parnell’s are playing in Ruislip and Mourneabbey have a long days travelling, could swing things in their favour, but it promises to be an intriguing game.
Parnells manager Tom Donohue said: “We a really looking forward to this game. We are much better condition to last year [when the lost at the same stage of the competition while trying to defend their All Ireland title]. We were badly beaten last year and we are still hrting from that.” We have Niamh Fahy back and I will put her marking one of the O’Sullivan sisters.”
