New music TV show – Ireland’s Country

Brendan and Mike (1)

Two radio presenters are bringing a TV show to country music fans from February 3 on popular channel Bonanza Bonanza.

Brendan Magee and Mike Ryan last year attempted to bring Ireland its first full time country radio station, but following an unsuccessful bid they will turn their hand to broadcasting to UK viewers as well.

Wembley born Brendan, who moved back to Ireland in 1977, says that the show will feature a combination of both Irish and American country music.

It will be shown on Sky channel 266 and Freestat 157, joining popular established shows like Hot Country and Ireland West Music TV.

Instead of using a studio format the pair will show music videos from locations all around Ireland, with each broadcast from a different county.

The opening show was filmed in Sligo and the second and third shows from Donegal and Fermanagh respectively.

Brendan said: “As well as all the top Irish based artists like Nathan Carter, Derek Ryan and Mike Denver, we will also be featuring longer established artists and up and coming Irish country singers as well.

“Our aim is to bring only good quality videos and ensure the viewer an enjoyable hour of the best in Irish country music.”

Brendan, who used to work on Midwest Radio, took a break from radio and music to pursue a  career as a pilot with Aer Arann for six years.

He was based at Galway airport and after two and a half years was promoted to captain.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a pilot. It was my childhood dream to one day become and airline pilot but family comes first and I’m thankful that I had the chance to follow my dream.

“My second love is country music and both myself and Mike are single-minded in achieving the goal of setting up Ireland’s first country music radio station.”

Brendan and Mike have been granted a temporary radio licence by the broadcasting authority of Ireland to broadcast to Dublin and the south east for 30 days from February 10.

Ireland’s Country will be broadcast at 8pm on Tuesday, February 3 on Sky channel 266 and Freesat 157. It will be repeated on Thursday at 8pm.
