A Kilburn man has been charged with taking part in the smash-and-grab robbery at Neasden’s 24-hour Tesco superstore early Tuesday morning.
A gang robbed the Tesco Extra superstore in Great Central Way at 3:30 am after arriving in a stolen Land Rover and on two mopeds.
The mob, wearing masks and crash helmets, threatened workers with their weapons before stealing property including mobile phones and cash.
They smashed into a stockroom where the phones are stored and the shop’s ‘click and collect’ warehouse to steal thousands of pounds worth of stock. They also fled with hundreds of cigarettes.
Police chased the Land Rover as it made off and managed to stop it in Willesden Lane NW2 where a 21-year-old man tried to flee on foot.
Following a short pursuit he was arrested in nearby Chatsworth Road for robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and assault on police.
Tesco said: “The incident took place in the early hours of (Tuesday) morning. Our store was reopened at 11am and is trading normally. We would like to thank our colleagues and customers for their patience during this time”.
Cheyenne Cato, of Iverson Road, is also accused of two separate robberies that took place in Kilburn over the summer.
The 21-year-old was scheduled to appear Hendon Magistrates’ Court charged with one count of robbery at the branch in Great Central Way.
He has also been charged with aggravated taking and driving away and assaulting two police officers following the robbery.
Cato also stands accused of taking part in a robbery in Kilburn High Road on 27 July and another robbery in Cavendish Road on 2 August.
