Jack Gleeson has probably boosted the sales of a Trinity charity calendar quite considerably since he posed naked for a nude charity calendar to be published by Trinity College students.
The Cork-born Game of Thrones actor, who studies Philosophy and Theology at Trinity, features in a saucy shot for the Trinity College Scholars and Fellows Nude Charity Calendar 2014 which the alumni students posted recently on their Facebook page.
In the shot the 21 year old, who plays the despicable King Joffrey in the hit HBO drama, can be seen sitting at the centre of a table in a Last Supper-style banquet – with just bread rolls and fruit pieces strategically placed to hide the models’ modesty.
The calendar costs €5.00 and all proceeds will go directly to fund educational charities including the Trinity Access Programmes and the North Inner City Dublin Community After Schools Project.
Surprisingly, the trend for nude calendars began in earnest with the famously prim and proper Women’s Institute, after which the 2003 comedy starring Helen Mirren and Julie Walters is named.
A group of Yorkshire women produced a nude calendar to raise money for Leukaemia Research under the auspices of the Women’s Institutes in April 1999 and the rest, as they say, is history.
Irish farmers have been capitalising on the nude calendar market in recnt years too. The Irish Farmer calendars (www.farmercalendar.com)have featured sexy shots of real Irish farmers every year since 1991, with proceeds going to the charity Bothar.
This year, images include farmers cuddling tiny lambs, one young man in a field of long grass looking lonesome as he reads a newspaper article about lonely farmers and another poised to attack a turkey with a knife and fork.
