Must-have nail polish colours for summer

Must-have nail polish colours summer

Now that summer is finally here, it is time to play with fresh and flirty nail polish colours. Manicure trends for this season evoke the sun-filled days and exotic locales, with vivid fuchsias, sunny yellows and sky blues the pick of the crop.

Fab Fuchsias

From high shine glosses to perfectly pink hues, spring’s new fuchsias are getting us in the mood to move away from our go-to nudes. Seasonal brights like Nailberry Nail Lacquer in Groseille, a perfect pinky coral, and Lottie London lacquer in hot pink colour Spring Break are a great way to put a literal spring in your step while nicely matching a pretty sundress. Or try Bourjois’ La Laque Gel in Fuchsiao Bella, a gorgeous raspberry pink, which has a shiny gel polish effect with the hassle of using UV lights.

Apply two coats of the pigment before adding a thin layer of Bourjois’ Le Top Coat Gel on top to fix the colour and create a rounded effect that lasts up to 15 days.

Cool blues

Working well with neutral and pastel colour palettes, cool blue nail polishes are here to stay. Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Barracuda is a great sky blue, while Nailberry Nail Lacquer in Baby Blue is an appealing cross between pale blue and mint green. For those looking for something a little more dramatic Soigne’s Shibori is a brilliant sapphire shade, named after Japanese fabric dyeing techniques. One for true fashion aficionados!

Sunbeam yellow

Summer’s crop of golden-toned polishes are here to fight manicure boredom. Ciate London’s Paint Pots range offers a scrumptiously juicy shade called Mango Martini. This mouth-watering shade of yellow with a dash of orange is the perfect accompaniment to a summer tan. Also inspired by exotic locales, Miss Sporty Clubbing Colours Quick Dry Nail Polish in Mexico Yellow is a warm sunflower shade, which dries with a real gel-like shine. Whether you’re on holiday, or just wishing to be, get lost in Butter London’s Marmalade Skies nail polish, which is best described as a golden peach hue with a sheer pearlescent finish.

Beach beige

Forget sheer nudes and pastel pinks – this season there are many creamy ‘70s-inspired beiges just waiting to grace your digits. Complementing most skin tones, look for warm opaque polishes when trying this trend, such as Nailing Hollywood Nail Polish in Cork, which looks best on trim, natural shaped nails. Not a fan of neutrals? MAC Studio Nail Lacquer in Sweet Potion serves as a happy medium between taupe and peach, making it the perfect compromise.
