Mitchel’s dare to dream

John Mitchel’s (Liverpool) 2-15 Dunedin Connolly’s (Edinburgh) 1-11

For two thirds of this pulsating tie Dunedin Connolly’s looked slightly the more likely winners until John Mitchel’s shifted up the gears and took a grip of this All Britain Junior Club Football Championship Final.

It was a truly sporting contest and the absence of a single yellow card throughout is a credit to both clubs.

The Liverpool side had received a setback in the week leading up to the match when Keiran Lynam suffered knee damage in a warm up game, but it’s testimony to their strength in depth that they came through this test.

In a lightning fast opening, the Scottish champions were fastest out of the blocks as Robbie Howe took the throw in and passed to Alan Ward, who found Francis Molloy to point from 20 metres. Seconds later Alan Ward pointed a free after Michael Cochrane was fouled attempting to shoot.
