Mitchell shines as TCG run riot

Tir Chonaill Gaels 5-18, Neasden Gaels 1-04

By Fiona O’Brien.

If reading into this opening match as a benchmark of things to come this season, Tir Chonaill Gaels will be significantly heartened by the ease that points were scored against Neasden Gaels at Colindale on Sunday.

To be fair, Neasden looked like they were struggling to field a full side, and this was hugely reflected by the disorganisation of player positions on the pitch. But if only using this match as a training exercise, Tir Chonaill can be extremely encouraged with their success rate in front of the posts.

An opening 15 minute spree saw them 3-4 up as Neasden failed to cope with the accomplished style and movement of their opponents. They ran circles around Neasden in this time, the posts looking like they had been put up especially for shooting practice.

Man-of-the-match Barry Mitchell opened scoring with his side’s first goal, as Cathal McGee capitalised on a crossbar deflection, and in a well-worked move, laid the ball off to Eoin O’Neill who then freed Mitchell in space in front of goal.
