Miss-firing Fullen Gaels are denied Croke Park return

Creggan Kickhams (Antrim) 2-10, Fullen Gaels (Warwickshire) 1-08

Last year’s defeated finalists Fullen Gaels will not be making back-to-back All-Ireland hurling final appearances this year after a hugely disappointing five-point semi-final defeat in Newry last Sunday.

But the Warwickshire champions can have no complaints after their surprise defeat to the feisty Ulstermen from Creggan Kickhams who deservedly look forward to the biggest day in their club’s history on Saturday February 8th when they take on Waterford champions Ballysaggart in the decider under the Croke Park floodlights.

Quite how Fullen Gaels managed to miss-fire so alarmingly is very hard to comprehend after they won the toss and elected to play with a strong wind in the opening half blowing into the Warrenpoint Road end of the well-appointed Co. Down venue. Needless to say many of last Sunday’s individual displays were just a mere reflection of the team who lit up Croke Park just under a year ago and even more recently during their impressive elimination of fancied Leinster champions Ballinamere from Offaly just before Christmas.
