Mayo woman’s marathon goal

A Nottingham fitness fanatic is embarking on a marathon journey as she prepares to complete two marathons in little over a month

Mayo-born Mary McGowan is preparing for a new running season of events which will include the London Marathon on April 24 and the Edinburgh Marathon on May 29.

She has already completed marathons in Berlin, Tokyo, Paris, New York and a Kilomathon in Sierra Leone. Mary has also completed many half marathons during her running career.

Apart from these runs she has also competed in various assault courses including Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest and the Beast.

She regularly trains with her group of Nottingham and is hoping to raise funds for a Charity called Get Kids Going which gives disabled children and young people the opportunity to participate in sports up to the age of 26 years.

They provide them with specially built wheelchairs so that they can participate in athletics marathons tennis skiing rugby etc.

Not only does the charity help disabled young children but it also provides manual wheelchairs for children to use daily at home or in school to interact with their friends and family.

They are also given sports grants to aid them in training physiotherapy travel competition fees and the design and development of sports’ wheelchairs.
