Tributes have been paid to former Fulham Irish player Diarmaid Maher who died tragically last week.
The 29-year-old was better known as a reality television star and appeared in such shows as Fade Street, Dublin Wives and Celebrity Salon. He was also a model with the Assets Agency in Dublin and was, two years ago, voted the second sexiest male model in Ireland.
Following his graduation from UCC with First Class honours in Business Information Systems, he moved to London to join the graduate programme at Deloitte.
He joined Fulham Irish GAA in 2006, making theNo.9 shirt his own on the club’s march to Intermediate Championship honours in its first year.
He continued to play for the club in subsequent years until he moved back to Ireland in 2010.
A club spokesperson said: “Diarmaid was an incredible athlete, none more so demonstrated than in the GOAL 5k run at Battersea Park in 2007, when Diarmaid finished third overall, beating some fine elite athletes in the process. All his club friends will remember the big smile always on his face. Our Condolences go out to his Family & many friends at this time.”
Mr Maher was laid to rest last on Sunday near the family home in Ring, County Waterford.
