Love/Hate’s Nidge brings record numbers to Abbey
Love/Hate Series 3 – Tom Vaughan Lawlor as Nidge

Nidge and the Abbey Success

The Abbey Theatre has enjoyed its most profitable year since 2007, enjoying €1million (£700,000) profits, with Tom Vaughan Lawlor credited with the boost.

The actor, famed for his role as Nidge in the gangland drama series Love/Hate, starred in ‘Our Few and Evil Days’ which sold out, and helped the theatre increase its box office performance by 25 per cent from €1.93m to €2.42m.

A spokeswoman said the box office performance was the best at the theatre since 2011 while its profit of €991,449 was the best since 2007.

However, in 2015, a spokeswoman said that the Abbey is projecting to record a loss.

She said: “The Abbey Theatre is reinvesting a substantial amount of the accumulated surplus earned in previous years (2013 and 2014) into the programme of activity for 2015.

This decision was made in order to maintain the level of activity at as high a level as possible in 2015. This will result in the Abbey Theatre recording a deficit for the financial year ending 31 December in 2015.”
