Channel 5 have announced that they will air the first episode of gritty Irish crime drama Love/Hate at 10pm on July 24.
This will be its first airing to the wider British audience although it has already screened in Scotland on STV.
Since launching in 2010, the gritty crime drama has grabbed the imagination of its Irish audience, becoming the most talked about thing on TV. It is RTE’s greatest success in terms of viewing figures and foreign sales with the show already broadcast in Australia, Asia and the US. Three series have now aired on RTE with a fourth to air later in the year.
Stars who have featured include Robert Sheehan, Killian Scott, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Aidan Gillen, Ruth Bradley, Ruth Negga, Brian Gleeson, Charlie Muphy and Sean McGinley. To date it has already taken fourteen IFTAs and swept the board at February’s award ceremony where it took Best Television Drama, Best Televison Director (David Caffrey), Best Television Script (Stuart Carolan), Best Television Actor (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor), Best Television Actress (Charlie Murphy) and Best Supporting Actress (Susan Loughnane).
The first episode sees Robert Sheehan’s Darren return to Ireland after some time lying low in Spain. When his brother Robbie is shot dead after being released from prison, Darren finds himself sucked back into the gangland scene he tried so hard to escape.
