Popular photographer’s annual calendar fundraiser is now in its fourth year
Tir Chonaill Gaels clubman and Irish World photographer Brendan ‘Tiny’ Vaughan has launched his 2016 Donegal Hospice Calendar.
In its fourth year the calendar is sold across Donegal and London to raise money for the charity, with Vaughan’s photography showcasing the best of the county’s scenery and characters.
This year the Carrigart native starts off with Tra na Rossan beach in Downings on the cover before the calendar unfolds to its January spread of the Bunbeg Wreck (Bad Eddie’s Boat) in Gweedore. Also featured are agricultural scenes in Lossett Gartan, Bloodyforeland and Downings, the late Ned Doherty of Rathmullan, the folk village of Glencolmcille and Daniel and Majella entertaining the crowd at the Vintage Car Rally in Greenford.+8
August and September celebrate the harvest in Carrigart and Donegal GAA, before the scenes move back to London and then Creeslough and Muckish Mountain for the remaining months. The many sponsors who support the calendar and charity are listed, before some key Donegal/London dates.
Although a palliative home care service has been provided in Co Donegal since 1989, the hospice itself was not opened until February 2003 and since then the services have been in great demand from people throughout the county. More recently, the service has been expanded with the introduction of Hospice Day Care.
This is an initiative designed to provide shorter periods of palliative care. Volunteers continue to provide complementary therapies to all residents, whether short or long term. The welcome appointment of two additional sisters to the homecare team now brings to seven the number of nursing sisters working in this area.
