London ladies had plenty to spare over an outclassed Kilkenny 4-18 to 1-10 in John Locke’s Park, Callan last Saturday afternoon to get their TG4 All-Ireland Ladies Junior Football Championship campaign right back on track.
A blistering opening half, inspired by an outstanding individual display from full forward Lisa Cafferkey, had effectively wrapped up the victory by the half-way stage when the visitors led by 3-11 to 0-4.
MATCH AT A GLANCE
• Player of the Match: Lisa Cafferkey (London) The London full forward was unstoppable and finished with a final personal tally of 2-11 with all but two points from play.
The Mayo girl led the Kilkenny defence a merry dance and her form will be crucial for London’s progress in the competition. Hannah Noonan gave a steady rather than spectacular display but she will have benefited from this outing.
• Score-of-the Match: Lisa Cafferkey’s 21st minute solo goal. It was the most clinical and classy finish of a one-sided contest.
• Save-of-the Match: Laura Tynan’s 56th minute point blank save from Lisa Cafferkey. The Kilkenny goalkeeper and captain could not be faulted for any of the four goals that passed her and this save denied Lisa Cafferkey a possible hat-trick.
• Turning point: London’s blistering opening quarter. After London opened up a 2-9 to 0-1 lead by the 23rd minute there was always only going to be one result.
