Lancashire 2-12, Hertfordshire 1-11
By Martin Mannering.
Lancashire made it four in a row as they retained their All Britain Junior title with a four point win over a gallant Hertfordshire at a sun-drenched Pairc na hEireann on Sunday.
In the idyllic conditions the two teams served up a most entertaining match that ebbed and flowed and which was in the balance right up to the end.
Lancashire started the sharper and had two quick points courtesy of Michael Molloy and Dessie O Malley. Five minutes in Damian Moloney got Hertfordshire off the mark and it was game on. It took another eight minutes to see the next score though as midfield and half backs jostled for supremacy.
When they did arrive it was the Connolly brothers who raised two white flags for Hertfordshire by drawing close in frees through their direct running at the Lancashire defence. O’Malley responded immediately with a fine point from wide on the left and Ross Nolan picked out the run of Enda Lyons who saw his shot superbly saved by Ryan Davies. The Hertfordshire goalkeeper performed more heroics when Molloy’s shot seemed destined for the bottom corner.
