GAA London Collins Cup
Kilburn Gaels 2-16
Robert Emmetts 2-12
Kilburn Gaels held off a second half fight back from Robert Emmetts to take victory at Ruislip on Sunday.
With first use of a strong wind, Kilburn took what looked like an unassailable 13-point lead into the break, with Emmetts looking decidedly second best. But Emmetts produced something akin to Muhammed Ai’s famous ‘dope on a rope’ as they were a side transformed in the second half.
Dave Healy’s fortuitous goal was the catalyst in a second half that became decidedly niggly. The loss Brian Healy to a second yellow card late on didn’t help Emmetts, who still got to within four points, before Ian Kavanagh’s goal settled matters.
Kilburn had earlier raced into a four-point lead after just seven minutes. Peter Atkinson opened Emmetts’ account in the 8th minute and throughout was his side’s stand out player, givingLondon manager Eamonn Phelan food for fought ahead of Carlow on May 19.
