Katy Perry is at the centre of a new lawsuit amid allegations her CoverGirl make-up line infringes on the rights of rival brand Hard Candy.

The singer launched her namesake line of lipsticks, mascaras and other cosmetics earlier this year (16), but the collection has irked bosses at Hard Candy, who have now filed legal action against executives at CoverGirl parent company Procter & Gamble.

According to TMZ.com, the plaintiffs’ complaint is over alleged trademark violations, but they have not specified exactly what they have taken issue with.

However, it appears the dispute may have something to do with the logo featured on the Katy Perry make-up range, as it carries a heart design similar to that of Hard Candy.

Hard Candy officials are seeking to have the Perry products pulled from sale, while they are also demanding a share of profits from the items.

CoverGirl and Procter & Gamble chiefs have yet to comment on the suit.

While Katy’s range has come under fire this week, the star has previously spoken out at her delight over the line, having been able to put her own stamp on the products and push the brand outside of its comfort zone.

“I obviously wanted a variety of classic colours, and colours that would fit all of the different skin tones,” she told Teen Vogue, “but for me, I always push the envelope and try for a unique look.

“I know CoverGirl has been around forever, and they’re super classic, but, for instance, they never had a black lipstick, and I’m like, ‘Guys, it’s 2016!'”
