Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders have turned down Strictly Come Dancing “many times”.
The duo, who are currently promoting Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, told The Sun newspaper that they have been pitched the dancing programme on numerous occasions but would “never” consider taking part.
“I wouldn’t even get the poor old granny vote,” Joanna said.
Jennifer added that her dancing skills leave a lot to be desired, laughing: “I’ve seen enough people who dance tragic to know it’s not for me.”
Strictly is returning to the small screen this September, with the celebrity line-up being hotly speculated upon.
Among those tipped to make an appearance on the programme include Irish TV presenter Laura Whitmore and legal eagle Judge Rinder.
It was previously reported that bosses were hoping the judge, real name Robert Rinder, will have an explosive relationship with judge Craig Revel-Horwood.
“Anybody who has watched Judge Rinder will know that he is going to be a brilliant match for Craig,” a source told The Sun.
“Producers hope they will go for each other and are predicting that new viewers will tune in just to see them go head-to-head. We don’t know whether he can dance or has a background in it, but we know he certainly is entertaining. That’s what people want.”
Judges Craig, Darcey Bussell, Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli are all expected to be back for the next series, but before that Bruno can be seen making a cameo in the new Ab Fab film.
Jennifer told The Sun that Bruno was her favourite celebrity appearance in the movie, adding: “He’s got crazy energy. In the middle of this film he was still flying to America and back.
“He’s such a darling. It’s this discipline in dancers – which we see in Kate Moss – to be there on time, to keep your shape, to do it right. No matter how, you turn up on time to look perfect and move perfect.”
