Irish President issues sympathy statement London Fire

President Michael D. Higgins has expressed sympathy for those affected by the catastrophic fire at Grenfell Tower in London.

“On behalf of the people of Ireland, I want to offer my sincere condolences to those families whose family members were killed or injured or affected by this terrible tragedy.

We are thinking of all those who have been bereaved or are suffering at this bleak time.

I have asked me to be kept informed as more information becomes available.

I will write to the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, to communicate the sympathy and support of the Irish people (to the people of London).”

As Gaeilge:

Tá an tUachtarán Micheál D. Ó hUigínn tar éis a chomhbhrón a chur in iúl dóibh siúd atá buailte leis an tine mhillteanach i dTúr Grenfell i Londain.

“Thar ceann mhuintir na hÉireann, ba mhaith liom mo chomhbhrón ó chroí a chur in iúl do na clanna a bhfuair daoine muinteartha leo bás nó ar gortaíodh iad nó ar chuir an tragóid uafásach seo isteach orthu.

Táimid ag smaoineamh orthu siúd go léir atá faoi bhrón nó ag fulaingt ag an am gruama seo.

Tá sé iarrtha agam mé a choinneáil ar an eolas de réir mar atá tuilleadh eolais ag teacht chun cinn.

Beidh mé ag scríobh chuig Méara Londan, Sadiq Khan, chun comhbhrón agus tacaíocht mhuintir na hÉireann a chur in iúl.”
