An Irish woman was among those on board of the shot-down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
Edel Mahady, cousin of Labour TD Willie Penrose, was travelling back to Perth after visiting family in Dublin when she was shot down with 297 others.
The mum-of-two grew up in Palmerstown in Dublin and attended St Joseph’s in Lucan as a child.
Her niece Yvonne Mahady told the Irish Mirror: “We are only really after finding out.
“I haven’t really been in touch with the Australian side, we can’t actually get in touch with them at the moment.
“Everything is sort of up in the air at the moment.
“I don’t really know a lot. It’s only new news to myself as well. We have to wait. She was my aunt.”
Mrs Mahady worked as a school administrator in Perth where she lived with her husband and children.
It comes alongside news that among those killed in the tragedy was Irish-Australian nun Philomena Tiernan who was travelling home after a retreat in Paris.
The foreign office has confirmed that 10 UK nationals were on flight MH17.
