The Irish National Kite Surfing Championships will take place on Duncannon Beach in County Wexford this weekend from August 17 to 18, 2013. The Championships are hosted by the Irish Kite-Surfing Association and Hooked Kite-surfing and will take place during the fourth annual Hooked Kite Fest in Duncannon.
Kite-Surf instructor and organiser Niall Roche from Hooked Kitesurfing said the conditions in Wexford have been perfect all week for Kite-surfing and the forecast is set to look favorable.
“We are delighted to be again hosting the IKSA Championships in Duncannon again this year, the conditions are looking super, we’ve had lots of kite-surfers here in Duncannon all week getting in some practice and enjoying the sport. This year we will have a speed course set for the Championships, kite-surfers will have the challenger of traversing around a triangular course of buoys trying to achieve their fastest speed, so really the title could be anyone’s.”
Coinciding with the Festival, Niall will be launching Ireland’s first purpose built Kite-surfing centre and School which Niall has only just completed the build of on Duncannon Beach along with his business partner and wife Christina. Having open the Kite-Surfing School some eight years ago it’s a dream come true for the instructor, “It’s an absolute dream come true to now have the centre and this dedicated Kite-Surf School, I’m looking forward to welcoming all of my colleagues and friends in Kite-surfing and anyone who is interested in the sport to the centre over the weekend.” Niall said.
The Festival and Championships will offer spectators the opportunity to witness the very best junior, female and male riders from across Ireland and the globe as they compete over the weekend in the course racing events.
