Award winning Irish film ‘Older Than Ireland’ to tour North of England with Director Alex Fegan
Alex Fegan brought his popular bitter sweet documentary ‘The Irish Pub’ to our cinema screens in 2014, garnering audiences’ adoration across the world. This year he has returned with a suitably charming follow up; ‘Older Than Ireland’. Alex will be accompanying the film on a tour across Irish community centres and venues 13th-16th September, 2016. After each screening he will talk about the film, and answer questions from the audience.
The film features thirty men and women aged 100 years and over. Often funny and at times poignant, the film explores each centenarian’s journey, from their birth at the dawn of Irish independence to their life as a centenarian in modern day Ireland. The film’s observational style offers a rare insight into the personal lives of these remarkable individuals.
The organisers aim to bring local Irish communities together to celebrate this wonderful group of centenarians, and the film itself. With the support of Culture Ireland, the director Alex Fegan will travel across the country to present his film, and to meet with the Irish communities in each city.
Festival Director Kelly O’Connor told The Irish World “We are particularly pleased to be connecting with existing Irish social and cultural groups at key centres in the North of England. This is the first of our major projects outside London and we’re delighted to be starting with this extraordinary film. It’s been a treat to be able to collaborate with our fellow Irish cultural champions from Liverpool to Leeds!”
Screenings are free and open to all ages.
