An Irish couple whose families feared they were missing during the Paris terror attacks have been found safe, having actually got engaged at the Eiffel tower on the same night.

Grace Burrows and Danny Duggan’s mobiles had run out of battery and were unable to phone home to reassure their parents they were safe.

Grace told the Daily Mail: “’We knew our families would be trying to contact us. I knew they would be so scared, because I always have my phone on me.

‘I’m the type of person who always has my phone on me, so when my family couldn’t get through they thought the worst.

“By the time we spoke to our families at 1am they had reported us missing to the Irish embassy.”

The couple have been together for five years and had been sightseeing all day, but Grace nearly missed the proposal that Danny had planned as she was tired from walking.

‘It’s lucky he persuaded me because if he hadn’t got away from the river we would have been close to everything that happened.

‘When we were there we thought we heard a sound like gunfire. But we assumed it was fireworks so we paid no heed to it.”
