Irish Air Corps captures rare fin whales on camera

By staff reporter

Two huge fin whales, majestic animals which are rarely caught on film, have been captured on camera by the the Irish Air Corps in Atlantic waters, about 150 miles off Mizen Head in Co Cork.

The stunning footage of the breaching whales was shot as the crew of the maritime Casa patrol plane carried out inspections on a tuna fishing fleet.

The plane was being captained by Brendan O’Dowd when they spotted the whales in the water and then bursting out of the ocean.
