We love Olivia Wilde’s style for so many reasons, but her romantic, ethereal braided halo at the 2016 Academy Awards made her our red carpet favourite of the night.

The actress looked stunning in a revealing ivory gown with delicately folding pleats and a glittering choker, which was perfectly complemented with a simple yet eye-catching plaited bun.

Sam Burnett, KMS California’s Global Style Council Member, says Olivia’s romantic hair statement can be achieved in mere minutes.

To recreate this easy alternative to the classic up-do, start by combing some volumising product with an added heat damage protector such as KMS California ADDVOLUME Styling Foam through damp hair.

Whilst blow-drying, part the hair into a low side parting paying extra attention to the hairline to control any flyaway baby hairs.

Next, section the hair from ear to ear just in front of the crown and pull the rest of the hair into a low pony tail, securing with an elastic band.

Braid the pony tail and twist it around itself to create a bun, securing with strong bobby pins.

Then French braid the two loose sections of hair at the front and secure with more pins.

Finish by adding some Sea Salt Spray to the wispy hair around the face and allow to air dry for a romantically inspired finish.

Polish off the look by recreating Olivia’s equally dreamy make-up.

Olivia’s make-up artist, Melanie Iglessias, used a neutral lip colour, like Revlon Matte lipstick in Pink Pout 2 and paired it with a slightly smoked out eye shaded in brown hues to really bring out the star’s blue eyes.
